The Gladstone & District Four Wheel Drive Club was formed in
1972 and is a family orientated club and open to all interested parties
devoted to four wheel driving, touring, camping, site-seeing and all
outdoor activities. We are a "Mobile outdoor recreation club".
We are aware of the environment we use for recreation and are safety
conscious when in that environment. We have an environmental officer
that reports on various issues and from time to time attends meetings
with other environmental organizations such as Parks and Wildlife
Service, Environmental Access for Recreation, Coastcare and Forestry.
We have recently been involved with Coastcare and have cleaned up
the beach from opposite the Boyne Smelter up to Lilley's Beach. The
last two years we have sent large contingents to Fraser Island to their
Clean-up sponsored by Toyota. This coincides with Clean-up Australia.
The club has been involved with and assisted the Smelter in their
efforts with Tree Planting in the buffer zone between the Industry and
the Beach.
We are members of the Queensland Association of Four Wheel Drive
Clubs Inc. which oversees all the clubs in Queensland, who in turn are
members of the National Council of Four Wheel Drive Clubs in Australia.
The association is always there to give advice and guidance on a host
of topics and advice if we need it.
In recent months we have obtained basic four-wheel drive safety
instruction packages and have two persons involved in adapting these
packages for presentation/training of club members.
Overall we are an active club, environment and safety conscience, out there and having fun.
